A Wealth of Knowledge, Passion & Experience

I'm a  Chess Coach and a Chess Player. Learnt to play Chess when I was about 7 years old.  At high school I had to teach many studnets in my class how to play the game, just so I had people to play with. Made the Jamaica College Chess Team in 1982. Under Captain Malden Miller we beat all opposition and easily retained the Worker's Bank All Island High Schools Chess Trophy, we had won the year before, for the first time, with Captain Michael Siva . I made Captain for the following season, 1983,  and we marched into the finals once again. We tied with St. Jago and shared the Honours, for our 3rd hold on the trophy. After I left JC, Captain Stuart KIng, my former board 1, charged onto the Finals again, only to draw with KC, to secure our 4th consecutive hold on the trophy.

I played ladder league at CAST during the 1980's, and a few other tournaments.

After a 20 year break, I returned to competitive Chess in 2007, also started Coaching at Belair School in Mandeville. There I also started the Mandeville Chess Club, meeting at the Astra Hotel. The Belair team upset the fancied Iona High and reached the Semi-Finals of the RBTT Bank Rural Area High Schools Chess Championships. The following year, with a young team we missed out on the quarterfinals by a few points.

In 2013 I started coaching the Jamaica College Chess team. We made the quarterfinals of the Burger King Corporate Area High Schools Chess Championships. In 2014 JC had two teams into the quarterfinals and the A-Team upset the fancied Wolmer's Boys team and reached the Semi-Finals of the PCJ Corporate Area High Schools Chess Championships. In 2015 the competion was restructured and the quarterfinals became a 16 team 4 round final. We fielded a young team and ended up 6th in the Corporate Area and 14th overall.
